Because so many low-income families live in informal housing in Cambodia, security of tenure is an issue of concern. The Asian Coalition for Community Action (ACCA), operated by the Asian Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR) works to ensure housing rights and prevent evictions of low-income populations in Asian cities through a variety of activities including community savings, supporting community development funds, natural disaster relief, and policy advocacy, in which ACHR activities are integrated into government policies.
For most of ACCA’s big projects, the focus is on housing provision, and local governments play an important role, providing infrastructure, technical assistance, and building materials. In the Philippines, funds from ACCA are used to seed a revolving loan fund, providing financing for families to construct housing within their current neighborhood, instead of being relocated to a remote resettlement site.
